Luke's Mom (written June 2, 2011)

Last year at this time my beautiful baby boy was born shortly after midnight.  Meeting Luke will always be one of my favorite days and I smile justing thinking about holding him and playing with his fingers.  Many people commented on how long his fingers were and from the moment he was born he had such a good grip with his long little fingers.  Everyone was so excited to meet our little guy and our family felt so complete.   I am grateful for having Luke in my life, even though it was way too brief.  He brought so much joy and love, I know I will feel it for the rest of my life.

Who does not like shopping for a little one? This photo has an outfit I purchased at the coast when I was about 5 months pregnant. Before Luke was born, I would take it out and envision my little guy in it. When I got to put it on him, he looked so adorable; though he grew so fast he did not get to wear it for more than a month. Here he is wearing his little whale outfit with this daddy. I love his chubby little cheeks and his peaceful little face.

It amazes me how happy my little guy was. Unless he was hungry or wet he smiled easily and was really starting to laugh and giggle. We feel so fortunate that we got so many photos of his contagious smile. His happiest time was right after he ate (he loved the breast milk!).   Since he was about 5 months old, I would work with him on standing on my thighs. He thought this was really funny. I cannot help but look at his smile and think how fortunate we were to have him to hold and that in many ways he will always be here with us.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to know Luke.  As soon as I would see him he would bring a smile to my face.  His chubby cheeks and great smile warmed my heart.  The last time I saw Luke was when Katie and I met for a walk in Sherwood.  Luke was very content in the front pack with his cute rolly polly legs just bouncing away as Katie and I  chased after our toddlers.  He seemed happy just to be along for the ride. One of my favorite memories is when Katie and Barney came over to our house for dinner in the summer.  We sat out on the deck and listened to the older kids play in the yard while luke slept away on Katie's chest.  He was such a sweetheart.  I think of Luke often and hope that someday I will meet up with him again.

I gave you lots of kisses on your head and belly.  You would always smile at me, until I gave you too many kisses and then you would sometimes cry.  When mom would put you on the activity mat I would lay down there with you and help you grab the rings.  You had toys that would play music and you liked it when I would get the music to play.  I love you Lukie.
